Warwick Vase

Warwick Vase

The Warwick Vase was excavated in Italy by Gavin Hamilton, and later owned by Lord Hamilton.

The vase was pieced together from fragments which took a long time and was expensive. There is an apocryphal story that the restorer changed

one of the eight God's heads into a portrait of Lady Hamilton with a pointed devil's ear because she had offended him.
